Maid of Honor Sister Speeches That Work

Posted by Dana on Thursday 21 October 2010

Here are some killer tips that make the maid of honor confident, humorous, and eloquent while delivering a speech as your sister’s maid of honor.

Unwrap the Speech with an Impact

The sole purpose of the starting part of the speech would be to quickly clutch the attention of the guests. It’s an excellent idea to get started with a humorous story. It also works well if you begin with a moving and emotional story. This will help you grab the attention you want and produce interest within your speech.

Use a Humor that Feels Appropriate to the Speech

Humor is one of the indisputable icebreakers and it’s truly entertaining. Using suitable jokes or hilarious anecdotes work great. But stay away from humiliating the wedding couple or guests. In most of the cases, humor quickly melts down the hearts of the wedding guests and adds more color to their pleasure on the wedding reception.

Try and add some sentiments to the speech

The wedding is some of the most memorable events of your sister’s life. And so is the wedding speech. Since the wedding speech would be directed mainly towards your sister, it should almost be highly emotional. The sentiment in a sister’s maid of honor speech revolves around sweet memories or incidents the two sisters shared with each other.

And finally, adding some thoughtful quotations on love, life, joy, husbands, wives, or marriage, can reinforce the basic theme of the speech. It is also a good idea to add hilarious quotes. Just make sure that they suit with the theme of the speech.

Can You Still Make A Speech Even If You Hate The Groom?

Posted by Dana on

Yep, I actually got asked this the other day.

“I’ve got to make a Maid Of Honor Speech and I hate the groom. He’s a jerk. What should I say?”

Well my first instinct was to come up with some witty put downs for the groom but then luckily, I started to think. Then it got scary. So here goes…

Ask yourself  WHY you do not like him.

Are you jealous of her, or maybe of them as a couple?

Do you know something about him that your friend or sister (the bride) does not? Is he a bad or dangerous person (history of violence etc). Has he had affairs during their relationship? Has he had an affair with someone she knows (please say it wasn’t you!)?

If it is not any of these, then maybe you have picked up on some  doubts that the bride has (that she is afraid to admit, confront or own up to). She may harbour serious doubts about the marriage but be scared to do anything because arrangements are at an advanced stage.

You may have stumbled on something that needs to be addressed.  Maybe they have different reasons for wanting to get married (“it was the next step” or “all of our friends’ were getting married” etc). Perhaps they have different expectations of what the marriage will be. Maybe he has some doubts that need to be addressed?

Whatever it is, it needs attention now, not at the wedding. Making your feelings known during the wedding speeches is too late, pointless and will lead to trouble. You may fall out with the bride just when she needs you most.

Just remember, if you are making the maid of honor speech, then they are already married and it will be too late. Maybe, just maybe however …he IS just a jerk, period.

This did not turn out as I thought it would but please let me know what you think (no spam or backlink only comments. It takes me ages to delete them).

How To Prepare Funny Wedding Toasts

Posted by Dana on Wednesday 20 October 2010

Hello, Stephanie here!

If you are getting ready to give a wedding speech and need some practical ideas, look no more!

I’ve prepared this website so that you can find useful resources that will help you plan an amazing wedding toast or a funny wedding toast if that’s the route you want to take.
You see, as a professional wedding planner, I’m often asked: “What is the secret of a successful wedding speech or toast”… and my answer always is: Inspiration and Preparation.

Click Here To Find Some Inspiring Wedding Toast Ideas

I know that planning a wedding takes a whole of time and it could be a stressing process. One thing you don’t want to stress about is your wedding toast.  That’s why I highly recommend that you get prepared in advanced because you don’t want to look stupid in front of everybody and you don’t want to embarrassed anybody, specially the  bride, the groom or the parents of the happy couple.

An excellent way of preparing yourself to your wedding speech is by looking at some wedding toast examples. The best place where I can think you can see some great examples, besides this web-site of course is in a website called Wedding Speech 4 You.

Click Here To View Some Wedding Toast Examples.

Believe me when I tell you, I’ve been in a lot of wedding speech sites but Wedding Speech 4 You is by far the place site I’ve ever seen.  I know the website might not look too flashy because it does not have great graphics but their content is phenomenal.

And, as a one little piece of advice, if when the time comes that you have to deliver your wedding speech,  you have forgotten what the hell you were going to say… keep this in mind: simply speak from your heart. Don’t  let your mind fool you by trying to elaborate big words because will get really nervous…. Just listen to your heart has to say as it is filled with love for the bride or the groom. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 13:4-6

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

I hope you enjoy my website and I’m looking forward to reading your comments!

Maid of Honor Speeches – Go Easy On The Booze!

maid of honor speeches

Hey girls, this seems so obvious but it still creates mayhem. It’s unfair that the guys seem to get away with it rather than the girls (hey that’s life) but too much alcohol on your part could spell disaster. You want people to remember the maid of honor speeches for the right reasons.

Your friend’s / sisters / cousin’s wedding is always an emotional time. Your maid of honor speech is going to be difficult at the best of times as well as you having to follow others such as the bride and groom and the parents of the bride and groom.

It is so tempting to have a little tipple to “calm your nerves” before your maid of honor speech. Well, there’s a huge difference between calming your nerves and causing a riot! I’ve seen girls swear, insult the bride’s relatives or make themselves look complete and utter fools. It’s a guarranteed way to foul up the wedding (but be remembered by everyone for years to come for all the wrong reasons).

The most embarrassing one I have seen is a “lady” stop halfway through her speech because she could not remember what she was supposed to be saying. Everyone thought something really profound was going to be said but nothing happened.

She never thought to look down at her notes. Everyone was too polite to say anything until the Bride’s father decided enough was enough and thanked her for her contribution. It’s funny now but at the time it caused a lot of grief.

So, just be careful how much you have before your maid of honor speeches (including guzzling the champagne meant for the toasts). You can let your hair down (not yourself) later in the day.

Matron of Honor Speech – Forgot Your Notes? Use This Template

Posted by Dana on Tuesday 19 October 2010

Are you about to make a Maid of Honor speech and forgot your notes? Are you sat in the hotel thinking “how on earth am I going to come up with a matron of honor speech at such short notice?” Well, don’t panic … try this maid of honor speech template.

Try this quick template…

1/ How long you and the bride have been friends

Include a couple of anecdotes to emphasise the bond.

2/ When she met the groom.

Say how you were worried you might lose your friend

3/ How your fears were unfounded… you are still the best friends in the world.

How, despite them being together, you still get to spend precious time with the bride.

4/ How far from losing a friend, you have gained another one (the groom)

5/ Wish everyone well, especially the couple.

6/ Thank them both for being fantastic friends.

7/ Sit down and listen to the applause. Hopefully yours will be the best matron of honor speech that they have heard (and no-one will know your secret).

Funny Father of the Bride Speech

There was no endpoint listening at http://api.microsofttranslator.com/v1/Soap.svc that could accept the message. This is often caused by an incorrect address or SOAP action. See InnerException, if present, for more details.

As the father of the bride, you will probably want to honor your daughter with a funny wedding toast. The father of the bride toast can be funny and heartfelt all at the same time. It is a culmination of memories new and old. As a self declared expert in writing funny wedding toasts, I have the following advice to offer to great Dads.

Your little princess has grown up and is taking a huge leap in life. She is probably almost as nervous as you are for her. You can put her mind at ease with a father of the bride toast that pulls on her heartstrings yet leaves the room laughing all at the same time. Every bride loves to reminisce about her childhood and sharing both her brightest and funniest moments together will be sure to please her.

All funny wedding toasts take some planning. Most people can’t pull off an impromptu speech about the happenings of years gone by. My advice is to take some time and write down some memories, both her embarrassing moments and the moments that made you the proudest father on earth. A great combination of the two can make your father of the bride toast memorable for all.

Think back to some of the funny toasts you have heard at other weddings and you will realize that they probably all have the same thing in common, a collaboration of memories from childhood ranging through adulthood. Everyone has both memories that make us proud and memories that make us laugh. Using a combination of the two for your funny wedding speech will most likely leave your little girl in tears- happy tears!

As the father of the bride, you have years of memories to choose from. You don’t want to make your funny wedding toast too long, try to keep it to three to five minutes. You will be amazed at how much you can say in that short amount of time. Remember, you are not the only person giving a wedding toast and the night is only so long!

One last piece of advice, try not to embarrass your daughter too much! This is her big day after all and she will appreciate the fond memories you share but she won’t want to dwell on all of her embarrassing moments in life. Start off your funny wedding toast with stories of how she ran away when she was ten or wrecked the car when she was 16. Finish the toast off with some great advice for making her marriage last or a fond memory of her graduating college- maybe even the first time she introduced you to her new husband.

Funny wedding toasts come from the heart, remember that! Memories make for the best laughter. Make her laugh but be sure to remind her how proud you are of her. This is her one and only big day so make your funny wedding toast something she will remember for years to come.

Tips for a great Bridesmaid Toast

Posted by Dana on Monday 18 October 2010

As a bridesmaid, you have many duties. If you are the maid of honor, you will probably be one of the many people giving funny wedding toasts at the reception. I have learned through the years what it takes to write a great wedding toast. I have heard some of the best wedding toasts and probably some of the worst wedding speeches of all time. I have the following advice to offer for any bridesmaid giving a toast.

#1- Share funny stories about the bride and groom. You want your bridesmaid toasts to be heartfelt and sincere while at the same time entertaining. Perhaps you know a great story about the new couple that they wouldn’t mind you sharing with everyone. Of course, you never want to mention anything that you know the bride wouldn’t want shared with the world. Just add a few funny blurbs about the bride to your wedding toast and everyone will be happy.

#2- Add a funny wedding quote. There are hundreds out there to choose from; or, to make it more meaningful, ask the parents of the bride if they have a special quote from one of their funny wedding toasts. The idea of a great bridesmaid toast is to make it about the bride and the people who are important in her life. She will love the fact that you took the time to talk to her parents and get their input.

#3- Speak from your heart. Yes, it is entirely possible for funny wedding toasts to be from the heart. There is humor in love and relationships. Bring this out in your funny wedding toast. A sentimental yet humorous wedding toast will be enjoyed by all in attendance.

#4- Be influenced by others. By this I mean, seek out the help of other bridesmaids. Knowing that you are going to have to stand up in front of a room of people, most of whom are probably strangers, is probably leaving a decent sized knot in your stomach. You may be completely clueless as to what you want to say. For cases like this, I recommend bringing in the reinforcements for your funny wedding toast. If you can’t think of any great, humorous memories (and this is probably just because you are so nervous and not because you don’t have any), ask for help. Once you get talking with others, the memories will come flooding back that will make a great funny wedding toast.

#5- Poke fun at the groom. As maid of honor, you are there to support your dear friend. What better way to honor her during your funny wedding toasts than to mention how wonderful it will be to have a helping hand around the house- from her new husband of course.

#6- Write it down! Don’t be afraid to read your speech. Of course, the best wedding toasts are the ones which seem more impromptu so try and rehearse it if you can but it is completely acceptable to read your toast from your notes.

Short Maid Of Honor Speech Example

Posted by Dana on

Here is a super short Maid of Honor Speech taken from a book called “Speeches and Toasts For All Occasions”. Unfortunately, it’s the only matron of honor one in there. That is why I think you should take a look at this collection of maid of honor speeches. So here goes…

“Ladies and Gentleman – I have a happy duty to perform on this happy occasion. I am going to ask you all to drink to the health of the Bride and Groom. It is an especially happy task because I can perform it with such confidence. Both of them look the picture of health and their happiness is beyond concealment.

Marriage has sometimes been called a lottery but I am sure there is no gamble about this match. Both the bride and groom took a peak in advance at the winning numbers before they chose their tickets. Of course, I could have told the groom that he had found a winner right from the start, for I have known the bride since she was a sweet and lovable child. I’ve watched her become more sweeter and lovable as she grew up.

The groom wisely, did not ask my opinion and nor did the bride. I hope they will forgive me if I give it now and say that if ever a marriage was made in heaven, this is it.

No-one ever forgets his wedding day and the young couple will look back on this day with sweet memories as the years pass. I doubt if their memories will include my speech, so I will detain you no further.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I ask you to drink to the health and happiness of the bride and groom”

Short, sweet and straight to the point. A great maid of honor speech.

Funny Maid Of Honor Wedding Speeches. | funny maid of honor speeches

Posted by Dana on Sunday 17 October 2010

So what goes in to great funny maid of honor speeches? After messing up my first Maid of Honor speech, I vowed to do the next one much better(if anyone would have me). The more examples I saw (and read), it seemed like the best had a good mixture of humor, honesty and emotion. None of those wedding speeches were boring, so I wanted mine to be entertaining too.

The best funny maid of honour speecheswere those that had humorus moments thrown in with the “serious wedding stuff. I guess a really funny matron of honor speech is a bit like a well written song… with peaks and troughs, verses and choruses. The funny bits have more impact when used in moderation.

Choose your humor to suit the audience. Something that has you in hysterics on a drunken “girlie” night out could be a disaster as a maid of honor speech. Think twice before you bring up embarrassing incidents. Again, what could be really funny elsewhere could seriously derail a wedding reception speech. Delivery is also a big factor. You may not be a comic genius but whatever you do, you’ll do it a lot better sober ( see Maid of Honor Speeches – Go Easy On The Booze! for examples). There’s plenty of time for drinking after your matron of honor speech.

In my case,  here’s the honest answer. Here were the (selfish) goals

1/ Getting a standing ovation.

2/ Not looking a fool.

3/ Not boring the pants off everyone.

4/ Still being best friends with the bride afterwards.

5/ Having the bride and groom fondly remember all the good things.

If you are stuck for ideas, you could take a look at maid of honor speech ideas, which is where I got my big break from. My suggestion, when planning your funny maid of honor speeches, is to do this list in reverse order.

Funny Wedding Toasts ideas for the Brother of the Bride

Posted by Dana on

Preparing a wedding toast takes time and planning, and funny wedding toasts can require even more effort. If you want to give a great brother of the bride speech, check out these ideas for making it one your sister will not soon forget!

As the brother of the bride, you have a unique opportunity. You have known your sister for probably longer than anyone else in the bridal party. Your funny wedding toast can be the best of the evening. And a great way to make this happen is to display a slide show from when the two of you were growing up!

Slide shows are the perfect compliments to funny wedding toasts. You have the rare opportunity to honor your sister in a way no one else can. A brother of the bride speech is probably my favorite because no one can tell a great story about the bride like her brother!

Putting together a slide show for your funny wedding toast is easy. You can easily make a DVD or have one created for a nominal expense. Your Mom and Dad will have plenty of pictures from your childhood for you to use, and her friends probably have a ton too. Unlike other funny wedding toasts, you will actually have a visual to make it even more memorable and once the night is over, your sister will have a memorable gift straight from your heart.

When you create your slide show to accompany your brother of the bride speech, you can make it in a chronological order starting with when she was young or you can highlight different events from her past. I would advise adding a nice song to accompany the slide show but you may want to keep it low so the guests can hear your funny wedding toast.

The hardest part of creating this slide show will be keeping it a secret; after all, you want your sister to be surprised by both the things you say in your funny wedding speech and the amount of effort you put in to creating this wonderful tribute to her. It is important you let everyone who helps you in finding the best pictures know you want this to be a surprise.

Once you have your slideshow in order, the next step is to write your brother of the bride speech to accompany it. Try to keep it so your funny wedding toast is in line with the slide show. You don’t want to be talking about a family vacation in Aspen when showing pictures from the beach.

Funny wedding toasts, when accompanied by slideshows, are a great tribute to the bride. But it doesn’t have to be all about the bride. If the groom has been a friend of the family for years or is someone you have a great deal of respect for, feel free to add him to the mix as well. After all, your funny wedding toast should be a tribute to both the bride and groom.

The Maid Of Honor Speech – Some Quick Tips

Posted by Dana on

When it comes to your maid of honor speech, here’s the most important tip I can give you.

1/ Do not leave it until the last minute to decide what to say. My first matron of honor speech was a … well it wasn’t brilliant!  The second was a hundred times better (because I had a plan).

You need to get it right well beforehand and then practice, practice, practice! You do not want to clam up (let’s face it, it’s an emotional day so the last thing you want to do is “choke” when your moment arrives).

Remember… messing up your best friend or sister’s wedding  is going to be far worse than messing up your own. Could you ever look them in the face again?

2/ Be aware of how your matron of honor toasts fits in with the rest of the speeches. You will be following the best man (who may well have just brought the house down). if he has then how are you going to follow that.

The obvious temptation is to try and “outwit” them. You have to resist this, particularly if you are your sisters matron of honor. You will know so much embarassing stuff that you could easily overstep the mark.

3/ Don’t make your maid of honor speech too long. There are umpteen speeches to get through. You don’t want to bore them to death!

Maid of Honor Speech Recipe

Posted by Dana on Friday 15 October 2010

Hi, Madison here……

When it came time on the wedding day to give my big Maid Of Honor Speech, I tried to think back to all of the Maid Of Honor Speech examples I had looked at.

I had my little note card just in case and just tried to remember all of the Maid Of Honor Speech Tips and Ideas I had learned over the course of the prior week just before the wedding.

From that experience, I wanted to give you soon to be Maid and Matron’s Of Honor, my recipe for making a successful speech.  Cool!!  So, let’s get cooking  :)

Step 1: Start with the speech preparation. Just as you would preheat the stove and lay out all of your ingredients, you need to prepare the maid of honor speech. Take your time, start early, and think carefully. Remember this next point.  You do not have to write the whole speech in one sitting. You can work on it off and on for a while, and you may find that ideas come to you over time.

Step 2: Next, use a heaping cup of sincerity. The most important ingredient in any maid of honor speech is emotion and honesty. Do not be afraid to make a few people cry, and remember to make sure the words come from your heart. This is vital to creating a speech that the bride will treasure.

Step 3: Add in a dash of humor. A funny maid of honor speech is always a hit at the reception. Mix up the moments in the speech by telling a funny story from the bride’s past or an anecdote about the happy couple. Humor is a great way to break up the seriousness of the speech. Just make sure to withhold any embarrassing moments. You do not want to ruin the day by hurting the bride.

Step 4: This recipe should only bake for a short period of time. In other words, do not make your speech too long. Otherwise, you will lose your audience and your speech will seem to ramble. Make sure it is meaningful and relatively short.

Cool!  That’s my recipe.  If you follow these guidelines, then you will be golden. Even with all of this, I had to get a lot of help and used some high quality resources to help me with all areas of my speech.  The best thing of all is to check out as many Maid Of Honor Speech examples as you can to help your speech be what you want to be.

Creating a Funny Maid of Honor Speech That is Heartfelt Too

Posted by Dana on Thursday 14 October 2010

Hi Madison here….

I would like to make this post about tips for creating a funny maid of honor speech. As the maid of honor, you want to create a speech that will be a combination of many things. Your speech should be funny and memorable, heartfelt and lighthearted.  But the task of incorporating so many things into the maid of honor wedding speech can seem a little daunting.

When I served as my sister’s maid of honor, I experienced many of the same feelings that you most likely are.  I was thrilled to be the one helping her get ready for the ceremony.  But I was terrified that I would forget something or my speech would be boring.

I can tell you from experience that the key to creating a perfect toast has nothing to do with the exact wording or the formality of it. Instead, a perfect maid of honor speech has personality, and they have special words, thoughts, or memories specific to the bride and her groom.

When I began writing my speech, I learned from the maid of honor wedding speech examples to include humor. A funny maid of honor speech can be a great way to keep the guests interested and to personalize the speech itself. However, I also wanted to include something heartfelt in the speech too.

I learned that the speech did not have to be funny in its entirety. In fact, these kinds of speeches are best when they include bits of humor mixed in with more serious sentiments.

One very important thing to remember is to be careful of your humor. Obviously, you do not want to say anything embarrassing or offensive for the bride. Keep your humor lighthearted, and keep the embarrassing moments only slightly so. When in doubt, think about how you would feel if someone told the story about yourself.

Remember also to include personal and emotional words as well. If you need guidance for just what to say, consider looking at maid of honor speech ideas. While you will want to create a very personal speech, it never hurts to consult the words of others. You may find that just looking will spring your mind into action and you will find just what to say.

The best speeches combine a little humor, a little advice, and a little emotion. When you create a funny maid of honor speech with the other themes sprinkled in, your toast will be remembered fondly by the bride and groom.

The Matron of Honor Speech: You Have Special Insight

Posted by Dana on

Hi!  Madison here…My blog is mostly about giving Maid Of Honor Speech tips.  But I thought it would be a great idea to look at this from a Matron Of Honor’s point of view.  Why?  Because difference is the Matron of Honor is already married and you already have a head start.  You can think back to your own wedding and remember what was said.

First tip is Plan your speech! And don’t wait until the last minute.  Or nervousness could set it in come wedding day.  When it comes to putting your speech together just think about your wedding. Think about the speech that your maid or matron of honor gave then.

I’m sure your special day was most likely a flurry of activity filled with lots of things to do,  but surely you can remember some details from the speech. Remember what stood out from the maid of honor speech that meant something to you. Also, think about what you might have rather been said too.

It can be funny or heartwarming, and it definitely should be marked with emotion since it is an emotional moment for the bride and groom. Just let the words come out naturally and speak in your own voice.

Another way to cure nervousness and stress is don’t focus on what you “think” should be said.  Just draw from your own personal experiences and memories.  When you do this, you will create the perfect speech without even realizing it.

A Great Maid Of Honor Speech | Just A Few Simple Tips Is All It Takes

Posted by Dana on Wednesday 13 October 2010

Hi, Madison here….

And so it was for me not too terribly long ago!  But I overcame that gosh awful feeling with some very helpful Maid Of Honor Speech advice that was desperately needed.  If you are going to be a Maid Of Honor for a special friend or maybe your sister, please keep reading…………

I devoted this entire little site to help those who are looking for advice on maid of honor speeches or maybe you want to know how to word your speech.

Based on my personal experience, my hope is this site will have all the maid of honor speech tips you need.  The days leading up to and the wedding itself will be emotional enough and you don’t need this anxiety hanging over your head.  So let me just provide to you some simple, easy to learn tips on how to craft your maid of honor speech.

Oh, in addition to this post, I posted plenty more speech suggestions with my special Maid Of Honor Speech Recipe and Maid Of Honor Speech Tips posts.  Please check those out too!

Let me give you my top 2 tips:  (whatever you do, don’t leave these 2 things out)

Make sure you include humor.  Everyone loves to hear about funny moments involving the bride.  The Maid Of Honor Speech should include some funny little story from when you grew up or something stupid you both did together.  You could turn a story from when the bride first met the groom into a funny moment.  For me, it was when our mom made some cookies for company visiting and I went out back, and between me and our dog, ate them all.  But my sister took up for me and told mom she thought they were all for her. :) Immediately after, say something sincere and touching about the bride.  Tell a little story from the heart.  A fond memory you both shared together.  My sister and I are only 3 years apart.  I included in my Maid Of Honor Speech a quip about how we told stories and romanticized to each other about what our wedding were going to be like.  And that we made a pact to be each other’s Maid Of Honor.

To be honest, what really put this all together for me personally was reading over some really useful and neat Maid Of Honor Speech examples one of my friends emailed to me.  That neat compilation not only provided many of the excellent tips I’ve mentioned on my site but I got to see some really awesome and actual written examples to go with those tips. That really eased my fears about my maid of honor speech and helped me stand up in front of all those people with confidence.  Thankfully, I did not embarrass myself or my sister knowing what I knew. My sister and mom told me it was the most beautiful and sincere speech they had ever heard.  I felt so relieved.

And speaking of emotions.  Please, please, please don’t worry about being emotional while making your maid of honor wedding speech.  It really is ok to cry while speaking.  It shows real love, that you are caring, and your maid of honor speech comes from the heart with meaning.  The speech will mean more to the bride.  Trust me on this!  It is ok….

If it helps you to relax, sip a drink of wine 15 minutes before you speak.  Also another helpful hint, jot a note or 2 on your hand for important points you don’t want to miss.  Don’t go crazy like Sarah Palin did on her hand and certainly don’t set up a teleprompter like President Obama but just keep important points in your mind.  Reading right off a piece of paper word for word doesn’t look natural.

If you follow these tips and use those really helpful maid of honor speech examples from the same set I did, your maid of honor speech will be the hit of the wedding.  I can promise you that.

Oh, if you need the link to those examples again, I think you can:

Tips On Creating The Maid Of Honor Speech

Posted by Dana on

Hi!  It’s Madison…..

In this post, I thought I would the most important Maid Of Honor Speech tips that you should know.  I went back to consult my awesome set of resources and speech examples I used to help me create my speech from.   Click Here To Check Those Out. Hope you have a few minutes to take a look.  They’re pretty cool and had what I needed to plan the perfect speech.  It’s actually the best advice of the whole lot I can give.

So let’s get rolling shall we?  Here are a few maid of honor speech tips I pulled from the guides I used and my own personal experience.

Start by remembering that the maid of honor speech should be personal to the bride and groom. I would think you would know the bride quite well, so you should be able to think of some really neat and special stories to share about her. Maybe you want to talk about how she acted when she first started dating the groom. You may even want to look deeper in the past.  I remembered when my sister used to make a wedding dress from a sheet and parade around pretending about her wedding.  These types of personal memories are what makes a maid of honor wedding speech very special.

Add some humor into the maid of honor speech. You might know a story of some funny event when the bride and groom were dating. Just be careful to make sure it is not too embarrassing for the bride or groom.  I sure didn’t tell everyone how my sister’s fiancé got food poisoning on their first date!

Try using some quotes to spice up your maid of honor speech toast. Whether you know of a special quote to the bride or groom or you know a quote that seems to suit the couple perfectly, adding them in can add just a little more to the speech.

If you feel you have reached a roadblock, just jot down your thoughts. Once you have your ideas for the maid of honor speech on paper, you will be able to formulate them into one cohesive speech. You do not have to start out by writing the whole maid of honor speech at once.

Finally, remember to start writing the speech early so that you have plenty of time to work on it. Don’t wait until the last minute like I did.  If you give yourself some time, you will be able to walk away from the speech and then go back to it later. This will give you fresh insight and you may remember something you want to add.

Your maid of honor speech is very important, and you want it to stand out in the bride’s memories.

Funny Wedding Toasts – Bride’s Speech Ideas

Posted by Dana on

As the bride, you probably already have a ton of things on your plate. The last thing you want to do is add more to it- but, if you are up to the challenge, why not get in on the fun speech giving and add to the funny wedding toasts at your wedding. Keep it a surprise and your groom will love it!

The bride’s speech is not a required element of a reception but it can make for some good laughs. As the bride, you have this one rare opportunity to give a funny wedding toast sure to embarrass your new husband in front of all of his close friends and family. After all, he will be poking fun at you for the rest of your life so why not take advantage of this one opportunity to really get him good?

Funny wedding toasts all have the same thing in common- funny stories from the lives of the bride and groom. These stories can be about one or the other, or even about both. If you want your bride’s speech to include stories about you, that’s fine too but this is your one chance to talk about some of your groom’s less than glamorous moments without him being able to be angry!

I am sure you have plenty of hilarious memories of the crazy things your new husband has done over the years- use these to your advantage. Talk about the first time he ever went skiing with you and almost hit a tree, things that are humorous but he probably hasn’t shared with his friends. I am sure you get the gist of what I am saying!

Honor your groom in your funny wedding toast by thanking him for all of the help he gives you around the house- help dirtying the dishes, help messing up the bedroom, anything you think will be amusing to your guests. He will get a chuckle out of it and your guests will too! The best funny wedding toasts are lighthearted and poke fun at an unsuspecting member of the bridal party- in this case, the groom!

Here is a great one liner you can add to your funny bride’s speech. “Behind every great man stands a woman who is ready to pull her hair out and honey, for you, I AM that woman!” Of course, this is just one example I have heard from funny wedding toasts. You can use it as is or alter it to make it your own. Use your pet name for your groom instead of “honey”. I am sure all of his friends would love to hear that one!

Giving a bride’s speech is by no means a requirement for the reception as I mentioned before. But if you can pull it off, it will give you and your new husband something to talk about for years! And maybe you will even have all of your funny wedding toasts on video to reminisce over at your 50th anniversary party!

Tips for a great Bridesmaid Toast

Posted by Dana on Tuesday 12 October 2010

Funny Father of the Bride Speech

Posted by Dana on Monday 11 October 2010

Funny Wedding Toasts – Groom Wedding Speech Tips

Posted by Dana on

Many grooms like to honor their new wives with a wedding speech. These funny wedding speeches often provide great amusement for the guests, and often at the bride’s expense. I have had a lot of experience in writing funny wedding toasts and have compiled this list of tips to help make your groom wedding speech memorable for all!

Tip #1 Never, and I mean never, talk about past relationships. You might think it is hilarious to talk about your bride’s past boyfriends in your groom toast but your bride will definitely not appreciate the humor in it! No one wants to air their dirty laundry, especially not on their wedding day!

Tip #2 Compare notes. Odds are you aren’t the only person who will be giving a funny wedding toast. Talk to the best man, father of the bride, maid of honor, etc. to find out what they plan on talking about. Funny wedding toasts just aren’t as funny when you hear the same story three times in ten minutes. Of course, you could always talk about your version of another story that is going to be told. For example, if the father of the bride speech is going to come before your groom wedding speech, perhaps you could put your funny twist on something he plans to talk about. He may be talking about how great it was the first time he met you- you could talk about how terrified you were to meet him for the first time.

Tip #3 Find some funny wedding quotes. There are hundreds of them out there. A funny wedding quote is a great way to beef up a groom wedding speech if you aren’t sure what to talk about. Ask your parents for some ideas or do a quick search online to find some inspiration.

Tip #4 Keep it simple! You don’t want to bore your guests with a 20 minute speech, and there will probably be at least two more funny wedding toasts they will have to sit through during the reception. It is a good rule of thumb to keep your speech to between three and five minutes- plenty of time to embarrass your new wife without boring your guests to death!

Tip #5 Consider your guests. Think about the people who will be there to witness your funny wedding toast. Your goal is to not offend anyone. Some people have a great sense of humor while others seem to have been born without one. Also keep in mind whether or not children will be attending your reception. If children will be present, try to keep it as clean as possible!

Writing funny wedding toasts definitely takes time. Don’t try and do it the night before your wedding. Think of it as of similar importance as your vows. You need to plan the things you want to say and have time to compare notes as I mentioned before. A little planning can make your groom wedding speech something your bride will not soon forget!

There are so many different styles of wedding maid of honor speeches. Whether you choose to be funny, sentimental, or do something creative like sing a song is up to you. The bride chose you to be the maid of honor because you know her best. This means that you will be considerate when giving the speech. While there is no right or wrong style for wedding maid of honor speeches, there are some basic rules you should follow.

1. Keep you speech short. This is the most important rule for wedding maid of honor speeches and also the rule which most people forget. You will want to really do the bride justice and honor her properly, which is why maid of honor speeches can sometimes run on way too long. Do not forget that the wedding party has to hear many speeches throughout the day. If yours is too long, they will tune out and miss all your thoughtful words.

2. Do not embarrass anyone. It is okay to tell funny stories but you do not want to humiliate anyone. Keep in mind that the bride and groom’s families are at the reception. Even if a story may not be embarrassing for the bride when she’s amongst friends, it may be too much in front of her grandmother. You can tease the groom but keep it at a minimum. Wedding maid of honor speeches should also never insult the bride’s family.

3. Be yourself. This rule applies to all speech making. Do not try to be humorous in your speech if it doesn’t come naturally to you. Likewise, do not attempt too much sentiment if you are more of a witty person.

4. Focus on the bride. Wedding maid of honor speeches are meant to flatter the bride. The groom already got his turn during the best man’s speech. While it is perfectly appropriate to tell stories and talk about the bride and groom’s relationship, you will want to keep the attention on how great the bride is and how lucky the groom is to have her.

5. Do not stress out. This is easier said than done when it comes to making wedding maid of honor speeches. You can ease the public speaking jitters by preparing ahead of time, practicing your speech and bringing note cards with you to the reception.

Tribute the Bride in Maid of Honor Speeches

Maid of honor speeches follow the best man’s speech. Men will normally talk about some funny or embarrassing stories and their speeches usually sound more like roasts than tributes. Regardless of what the best man says, maid of honor speeches have a special role. First of all, the idea of maid of honor speeches is to flatter the bride. The best man may get to speak first but maid of honor speeches come last, which means that your words are the last thing the wedding party will hear (before the next round of speeches at least). This is why your speech should always end with a positive and uplifting perspective on marriage.

Just because you want to flatter the bride in maid of honor speeches, that doesn’t mean you can’t be funny. One of the best topics for maid of honor speeches is embarrassing stories. Of course, they shouldn’t be too embarrassing and should always be appropriate. Your job is to tie these stories together with the bigger picture, i.e. the wedding day. For example, you can talk about what the bride’s idea of a dream guy was when she was 15. Then, make a funny comparison to the actually groom. You can also take the sentimental approach in a number of ways, like talking about how the bride is always there for her friends and family.

Outlines of maid of honor speeches can be really helpful when you organize your ideas. Generally, all maid of honor speeches start with a brief introduction, tell a personal story about the bride, talk about marriage and how great the couple is together and then end in best wishes. You can also add poems and quotes to make a powerful statement. Some people prefer to be spontaneous and wait until the wedding day before making their speeches. This approach is okay for some but you are usually better off with some careful planning. Make notes about memories you have with the bride, starting several weeks before the wedding. Choice just one of these memories and work it into the speech outline.

Maid of honor speeches should be brief and to the point. You do not want to bore anyone with never-ending babble, especially since the wedding party will have to listen to many speeches that day. Most importantly, a maid of honor speech should be from your heart. Just follow your instincts and you will tribute the bride and the marriage union.

Sample Father Of Bride Speeches

While reading sample father of the bride speeches, try to find which ones feel right for you. It isn’t just a matter of finding a sample speech which feels powerful, but finding a father of the bride speech which sums up your emotions. For men, these speeches can be really difficult because they tend to be so emotional. As we know, sentiment can be hard for most men to express- even if it is on your daughter’s wedding day. That is why humorous father of bride speeches go over so well. Here is a short sample father of bride speech to get your mind going.

“This is a very important moment for my bank account. I finally get to hand over my daughter’s spending habits to another man- and he is willing! It is a good thing his parents were willing too or else we wouldn’t have had such a nice ceremony and lovely meal. Seriously, thanks to Groom’s parents for helping with the wedding preparations.

I have dreamt of this moment for years, even though it sometimes felt more like a nightmare. Never did I imagine a guy could be good enough for my lovely daughter. I imagine that Bride also felt the same. If she is willing to suck down her standards, then I can too. Even though I had my doubts about Groom at first, he has proven himself a wonderful man and a true rare breed. I know that Bride and Groom will be happy together.

Getting married is a big commitment- usually joined by the bond of a mortgage. Over time, the mortgage shrinks and the marriage grows rich. Judging from the size of a mortgage that Bride and Groom have already taken out, they are on their way to a future wealthy in happiness.

Since I can see Uncle John over there eyeing his drink, I will cut it short. Let us stand and join to together in welcoming the new couple. Raise your drinks everyone. I give you…the bride and groom!”

Maid Of Honor Speech Jokes

The maid of honor has the task of giving a speech which flatters the couple, is sentimental and, hopefully, not boring.  Since the wedding party will be sitting through a long session of speeches, you may want to start out with a joke.  This is a great way of connecting to the audience and breaking the ice for what may be a very emotional story.  Maid of honor speech jokes should be clean (after all, the bride’s grandma is probably there!) and avoid the topic of divorce.  Also keep in mind that maid of honor speech jokes can mildly insult the groom but the bride’s family is off limits.  Some of the best maid of honor speech jokes are the ones that laugh at marriage, not a particular person.  You can start with a funny quote by a person and then adding your own twist.

Rodney Dangerfield said, “My wife and I were happy for twenty years. Then we met.”  For (bride) and (groom), the happiest part of their lives are just beginning…

Ben Franklin said, “Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.” It looks like (bride)’s eyes have been shut since the proposal and let’s hope she never opens them!

Groucho Marx said, “I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury.” Well, this jury is unanimous: it is a life sentence!

Sometimes the maid of honor speech jokes can be the speech itself.  Try to think of a funny story about the bride.  You can go back to childhood or college but make it personal and sincere.   No matter what story you tell, you should be able to relate it back to marriage or the couple’s courtship.  A good example is talking about a funny habit of the bride which the groom will have to live with.  No maid of honor speech jokes should embarrass the bride too much.  The idea is to get the bride and groom laughing along with the reception. Keep in mind that maid of honor speech jokes at the rehearsal can be much looser and casual.  For the wedding toast though you will want to more formal.  One of the best ways to test the waters is to rehearse your maid of honor speech jokes in front of an audience before the big day.  With the right amount of preparation, the maid of honor should rise to the occasion and might even outshine the best man!
